Education
Quality education is essential for the future of Montana. Children who are in school now will drive our economic future. Without a solid education, they will not be ready to take over and lead. One thing unique about Montana is that the local school boards have most of the decision-making power about what goes on in their district. This allows communities to create school environments that reflect the people in that district. School decisions are not being directed by a central group in Helena. I am currently a trustee for School District 10, which includes Dillon Elementary and Parkview Middle School. Having the authority to make decisions locally has allowed Dillon to continue to give our students a quality education.
The big issue with public education is the issue of “indoctrination vs education,” and I believe schools should only be in the business of education. Critical Race theory and Woke ideology must be stopped in every way from entering our school districts. History should be taught, with all its faults and benefits. America has been the greatest creator of freedoms and personal responsibility in history. Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other societal construct, while socialism has killed more people than any form of government ever created. These are truths that we must teach to the next generation. As your representative I will always support parents and students in their goal to receive a quality education.
Two more issues related to education are Charter Schools and Trade Schools. Both types of schools are important to education in Montana. Charter schools will provide more options to families in choosing an education path, and I will support efforts to continue to provide these options. In Montana, we are in desperate need of employees in the trades. and are in short supply of plumbers, electricians, and repair workers. These are well-paying fields of work that don’t require traditional four-year degrees. As your representative, I will support efforts by our colleges and universities to provide training to help fill these voids. This will provide a career path for young adults, fill employment vacancies, and help our next generation be able to stay in Montana and make a living.
